Modern Method of Guitar
General
The concepts taught in Bob’s Modern Method of Guitar book can be applied to all styles. It contains basic music fundamentals, basic fretboard concepts, chord construction and scale theory. It’s also a great reference book for any guitarist. Concepts taught in this book are used along with any songs the student might want to learn, so the student has a good foundation of concepts on the guitar as well as some songs they can relate to.
Note Reading
Most guitarists learn through tabs which Bob also teaches, but the students who learn the notes and rhythm of basic scales and chords will be able to compose easier, read music, and can transition from style to style since they can read music. Many of Bob’s students get into the jazz programs at their schools because they can read music and perform with the jazz band on guitar.
Music Theory
Along with learning the chords on the guitar, the student can learn what makes up those chords, and the scales that are associated with them. this allows them to compose their own music easier, and playing with bands that have any type of sheet music will be a breeze since they know how the basic chord progressions are made.
